ESS North America, a member of Compass Group Canada, has a long-standing relationship with and a commitment to supporting Aboriginal economic and business development initiatives across Canada.
We recognize our duty to demonstrate a high level of corporate responsibility and leadership by committing to achieve positive, sustainable and capacity building outcomes for Aboriginal people.
In ESS we have a three pronged strategy that informs where and how we operate and aligns with our corporate values.
- Where we work. The physical location of our businesses determines who we engage to ensure that as a company we are following through on our corporate values and responsibility, which is to leave the land better than how we found it. Aboriginal communities are often the impacted local groups. Listening to, learning from and partnering with residents in local communities makes execution of our operations significantly easier.
- Who we employ. The Defense, Offshore and Remote camp industry is labour intensive. We hire locally and take great care to hire people with a passion for service.
- What our supply base will be. Logistics is an art form in the remote camp business. Local suppliers are critical to how we manage costs, and we achieve success when we buy local.
ESS has more than 35 active joint ventures with aboriginal business partners in Canada, for the most part involving remote businesses in the mining, oil and gas and infrastructure sectors.
