Chief Executive Officer,
Compass Group Canada and ESS North America
Saajid Khan is Chief Executive Officer of Compass Group Canada and ESS North America. Appointed to this position in September 2010, Saajid leads Canadian business activities that extend to Alaska and the Gulf of Mexico. Saajid has been with Compass Group, the global leader in food and support services since 1996.
Saajid is a people-first leader with expertise in the luxury hotel, hospitality, catering, and food and beverage sectors that he developed globally with appointments in India, South-East Asia , Asia Pacific, USA and most recently Canada. He is a member of the Hotel, Catering and International Management Association (HCIMA).
Saajid’s first role with Compass Group was as General Manager and then CEO of RKHS; a Compass Group joint venture assignment in India. Building on his success, Saajid assumed the role of Project Director for Compass Group Asia Pacific based in Australia. This led to Saajid’s appointment as CEO and then Regional Director for Compass Group South-East Asia & China where he successfully led the business and industry, healthcare, education, offshore, remote site and airport sectors across 9 countries.
Prior to his current role, Saajid served as Director of International Clients & Market Development for Compass Group PLC in the UK. His responsibilities included the development of a global key account management structure to develop and manage international clients and the development and execution of the Group’s support services strategy.
Chief Financial Officer
Brent Mooney is Chief Financial Officer with Compass Group Canada, a position to which he was appointed in September 2011.
Brent’s career in finance began with the taxation division of KPMG in Toronto. During his tenure with the firm he became a tax senior manager and moved to the Ottawa office.
In 1995, Brent joined BCE in Montreal as a Senior Tax Director for Bell Canada International Inc. In 1996 Brent was promoted to Assistant Vice President of Taxation for BCE, and in 1997 again promoted to the role of Vice President of Corporate Taxes for Bell Canada in the Toronto head office. In 1999 Brent was appointed divisional CFO for Belle Nexxia, a division of Bell Canada. In 2002 he was promoted to Vice President Finance for Bell Globe Media before taking on the role of Vice President Finance for Bell Mobility in 2003, a role he held for three years. Building on his professional success in finance, Brent joined MTS Allstream in 2006 as Senior Vice President of Finance and in 2007 was appointed Chief Operating Officer, a position he held until 2009. Brent then served as President of Classic Financial Advisors from 2009 to 2011.
Brent is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario and holds a Tax designation from the Canadian Tax Foundation.
Brent holds a Bachelor of Math degree from the University of Waterloo.
Senior Vice President and General Counsel
Ian Baskerville is Senior Vice President and General Counsel with Compass Group Canada, a role he was appointed to in 2012.
Prior to joining Compass Group Canada, Ian was General Counsel, Vice President Human Resources and Corporate Secretary with The Second Cup Ltd, a role he held from 2006 to 2012 where he led domestic and international legal affairs.
Ian specialized in mergers and acquisitions as a lawyer within the corporate/commercial department at Cassels Brock & Blackwell LLP from 2000-2003. Ian moved into foodservice when he joined Cara Operations Limited in 2003 as Legal Counsel, a role he held until 2006 before joining The Second Cup Ltd. His breadth of experience includes corporate governance, securities law, litigation management, intellectual property, commercial leasing, marketing and employment law.
Ian is a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada. He received his law degree (LLB) from the University of Western Ontario and Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Victoria.
VP Strategic Alliance Group
Joe Cabral is the Vice President of the Strategic Alliance Group with Compass Group Canada. A position he was appointed to in September 2009. The Strategic Alliance Group is focused on understanding client needs and working with operations to develop business plans aligned with those needs.
Joe’s career in hospitality services began early with him receiving his Chef’s designation at the age of 19. Skills he used to finance his university education at the University of Western Ontario.
In 1985 Joe joined Compass Group (then Beaver Foods Ltd.) as a manager in the higher education market covering Hamilton, North Bay and London. In 1992 Joe was promoted to District Manager for south western Ontario responsible for education and business and industry.
In 2003 Joe was promoted to Regional Director for SW Ontario, which included responsibility for the automotive sector for Ontario. Joe joined the Strategic Alliance Group in 2008 as a Senior Director and soon thereafter was appointed Vice President in 2009 reporting to the Executive Vice President, Strategic Alliance Group for North America.
Chief Human Resources Officer
With over 20 years of senior human resources experience, Lauren Davey brings a dynamic and innovative approach to her role as Chief Human Resources Officer at Compass Group Canada.
Drawing on previous positions as HR functional lead, business partner and community leader with Canadian and globally based organizations, Lauren is able to communicate her excitement and passion for areas such as leadership consciousness, talent development and management, change management, and organizational effectiveness.
Lauren recognises that Human Resources can be a true business partner, actively engaging with key sectors to help drive business and achieve key corporate goals and objectives.
Prior to joining Compass Group, Lauren worked as Chief People Officer at Hub International where she introduced a new talent agenda for the organization, established leadership and development initiatives with an emphasis on coaching and driving accountability, and created key initiatives targeted at women, Millennials and top talent.
Lauren has also managed her own consulting business where she worked with senior leadership to facilitate cultural change, assisted start-ups and small to mid-sized companies with strategic design and planning, and provided coaching to key individuals and companies.
She has also held leadership positions with many prestigious companies with head offices in Canada and around the world. She was the Head of Human Resources for Dun & Bradstreet (D&B) for Canada and Latin America and while National Organizational Development Leader for Sobeys, Lauren led a change management initiative for an ERP system-wide implementation. She also managed the National Learning & Development department at Allstream (formerly AT&T Canada) and was instrumental in supporting a re-branding of the culture and company from AT&T to Allstream.
A strong believer that a company’s greatest asset is its employees, Lauren has worked extensively throughout her career to ensure that employees have the training and support necessary to ensure that they can successfully meet the challenges they face.
Lauren holds a degree in psychology from the University of Guelph and has also obtained her CTI Coach and CTI Leadership certifications through the Coaches Training Institute.
She lives in the Greater Toronto area with her two teenage boys, her partner and her golden retriever.
President, Healthcare and Senior Services
With over thirty years of executive experience in the food and facility service industry, Maarten has a deep understanding not only of our industry, but of the complexities of the Canadian healthcare sector as well.
Maarten’s wealth of experience and expertise leaves him well-positioned to oversee three of our healthcare and senior services sectors: Marquise Hospitality, Morrison Healthcare and Crothall Healthcare.
Marquise Hospitality provides a premier resident experience to the senior services segment. Services range from offering a wide variety of foods, to housekeeping and a full suite of facility services. Food plays an integral role in the healing process. With a focus on lifelong wellness, Morrison Healthcare offers patient dining and retail food for the hospital segment. Crothall Healthcare focuses on the environmental aspect of the hospital segment and offers services that include housekeeping, facility management, biomedical engineering and customer support.
Maarten has been with Compass since 2012, and for the last five years held the position of Senior Advisor to the CEO of Compass Group Canada and ESS North America
Prior to joining Compass, he spent twenty-five years with Sodexo in multiple European countries, the USA, and for the last 10 years, Canada.
Maarten holds a degree in Economics and Accounting from The Hague University of Applied Sciences.
Senior Vice President,
Matt has a deep history in procurement and supply chain management and brought 20 years of food and beverage experience to Compass Group Canada when he became Senior Vice President, Foodbuy in March 2017.
Matt started his working life on the Coca Cola Enterprises graduate scheme in the UK in 1997 and worked his way through various Corporate, Commercial and Supply Chain Accounting roles before joining CCE’s European Procurement team where he specialized in Global Commodities, Packaging, Logistics and Indirects. He joined Compass Group in global category management in 2010 before moving into the Compass UK business taking on various roles leading up to his appointment as Chief Procurement Officer for UK and Ireland.
Matt and his partner Judith moved from the UK this year with their two young sons Arthur and Elliot and their two dogs. Matt is a keen sportsman and particularly enjoys Cricket, Rugby, NFL and Horse Racing. Matt holds a BA (Hons) degree from the University of Durham in the UK.
Michael R. Hachey
ESS North America
Michael Hachey is President of ESS North America, a division of Compass Group Canada, a role he was appointed to in April 2015. Michael joined the organization in the fall of 2014 and managed all of ESS’s oil sand accounts.
As a Chartered Accountant who also holds an MBA from Queen’s University, Michael brings a new and diversified skill set to ESS with a long track record of success from many different industries and functional roles. Most recently, he brings his strong leadership experience from Mr. Lube Canada, where he held progressive executive management roles, most recently in their Walmart division, with full accountability for all functions including marketing, franchise sales, finance, operations and corporate stores. During his leadership Mr. Lube was recognized as one of Canada’s 50 Best Managed Companies and was ranked as one of Canada’s 10 Most Admired Corporate Cultures.

Compass Digital Labs North America
Humza has over 20 years in driving Technology and Business Strategy; while directly contributing to both top and bottom line results.
Humza grew our digital offerings from a few unique ideas and an innovation team within a multi-billion dollar enterprise, into what is now Compass Digital Labs. Attracting talent from many different industries and disciplines, the dynamics of the team became part of the winning recipe that would see the creation of new and pioneering technology for our business.
With the mandate to drive the best possible experiences, Compass Digital Labs builds innovative solutions across industry verticals and is a leader in consumer innovation, bringing start up thinking into large enterprises across North America.
Prior to Compass Group, Humza worked at Allstream, the largest enterprise telecommunications company in Canada, where he was Director of Business Transformation and IT Enterprise Architecture. He has also held various technical and management roles at Bell Canada.
A frequent keynote speaker at various North American conferences focused on technology, innovation and driving business results, Humza has built strong technology and business partnerships with top organizations around the globe. This network allows him to innovate creatively and quickly, accelerating business objectives.
Humza has an undergraduate degree from York University and holds various professional training accreditations from both the Schulich School of Business and the Niagara Institute; he also serves as the President of the CIO Association of Canada.
Sr. Vice President,
Nancy Zuccarelli is Senior Vice President of Sales with Compass Group Canada, a role which she was appointed to in 2008. Nancy leads a national sales team focused on market development, lead generation, prospecting, client strategy development and complex negotiations.
Nancy has more than 18 years of experience working in sales and key account management in the food and beverage sector. Her career began at Procter & Gamble in sales and customer service. Since then Nancy has held progressively more senior level roles in account management, strategic planning and business development with industry leading companies that include Canada Bread Company, Coca-Cola Bottling Company and Starbucks Canada.
